Fieldnote · A visual automation builder for warehouse ops
Replaced a chain of manual handoffs between warehouse intake, QA, and dispatch with a visual automation builder that non-engineers can configure themselves.
01/ The challenge
Every new SKU or supplier change meant a developer had to hand-edit a script buried in a cron job somewhere. Nobody outside engineering could see what the automations actually did, and two of them had been silently failing for months before anyone noticed.
02/ The approach
We built a visual, node-based automation canvas: ops leads drag together triggers, conditions, and actions, and every run is logged with a replayable trace. We migrated their eleven existing scripts into the new system and added alerting on failed runs.
03/ The outcome
- Workflows migrated
- 11
- Time to configure
- Same-day
- Run visibility
- 100%
Ops leads now ship their own automations without filing a ticket. The two silently-broken workflows were caught and fixed in week one. Average time to configure a new intake rule went from three days, waiting on engineering, to same-day.
“For the first time I can see exactly what every automation does and when it last ran. We caught two broken workflows in the first week that had been failing silently for months.”
